Remembering Remington

He was one the first subjects I took photos of when I get my first realllll camera, a DSLR.  Remington was just a puppy and would happily pose for me, gazing at me with his soft brown eyes and adorable fuzzy face. I could easily fill books and cover every wall of our home with photos of him and our family. I’ve probably photographed Remington thousands of times, and he’s always been more than happy to oblige—right up until the very last day. On that day, he sat in his favorite spot, looking at me for the final time as I took his photo, knowing it would likely be our last. Although Remington is no longer with us, the photos preserve the sweet, beautiful memories of him. His curly fur, his favorite toy, his favorite spot to sunbathe and watch the birds—each of these moments is captured in photos and framed on our walls.

One of my first paid photography jobs was for a couple who wanted portraits of their elderly dog. She was the sweetest little pup, and they wanted portraits with her to cherish after she crossed the rainbow bridge. It was such a heartwarming session, and after saying goodbye to my own first fur baby, I understood even more how meaningful those photos were. It’s because of this session, over 15 years ago, that I always try to photograph family pets during sessions whenever I can. I know that, more often than not, those are the only professional portraits their families will have of their pets. Over the years, so many families have told me how much these portraits of their dogs, cats, horses, and even special hamsters, mean to them.

It’s such a privilege and honor to photograph a family, including their beloved pets. That’s why I’m so excited to officially offer mini portrait sessions specifically for pets. Whether it’s a puppy joining the family, a sweet cat who’s been part of the family for years, or a loyal dog who’s been a best friend, I would be honored to capture their portraits.

I’m so grateful to be able to photograph these special animals that become such a big part of our lives

—and, in turn, our hearts.
